Beach Day!

It's been a HOT summer in NYC so any given Saturday you can find us at the beach! This time we decided to check out the north shore and go to Oyster Bay.

The bay was beautiful! I must get it from my Dad but any view of sailboats makes me happy. The sand (rocks/pebbles) was just ok but the crowds (or lack thereof!) made for a very enjoyable day!The cute little town of Oyster Bay happens to be the home of Theodore Roosevelt, the only U.S. president from Long Island. Pretty cool!

Chocolate is Not Just About Taste

Another USU intern joined the Drake Team last week. In his first 24 hours he had eaten Domino's and Subway so some of the other interns decided we needed to hold an initiation into NYC eating. We went to Max Brenner, it's like a real life chocolate factory!!

Inner Harbor

On our way home from Frederick, MD we stopped and spent a few hours in Baltimore's Inner Harbor.

We first went to the visitor's center where we learned that the harbor has been one of the major seaports in the U.S. since 1700s! ...and where we played in some of the displays :) Can you find us?

We thought what better way to experience the harbor then from IN the water! We had so much fun in this little paddle boat.

After our boat ride we enjoyed tapas on the balcony of this great restaraunt and walked in and out of shop after shop. It was a perfect little visit!

A Capitol Fourth

Since we were already in Maryland that weekend, we HAD to experience the 4th of July in our Nation's Capitol!

Last time we were in DC it was February so it was great experiencing the sites and monuments in the summer time.

Mr. Obama wouldn't let us get very close to his house... :(

If any of you remember Tyler's feelings last time we were here, I'm pleased to announce he's had a change of heart!

We ran into some of Tyler's friends from Pinnacle (so fun!) so we joined them on the lawn of the capitol to watch the concert.

FIREWORKS!!

The fireworks were A-W-E-S-O-M-E! 17 minutes long!

This was a very patriotic 4th of July for us and we loved every minute of it. (well, we didn't so much love the process of 1,000,000 people trying to get on the metro afterwards but that is another story)

F.A.M.I.L.Y.

This last weekend my family gathered from all over the country to celebrate the life of my Uncle Randy who lost his 5 year battle with cancer.

It was an emotional weekend. Joy for my uncle to not be suffering anymore, sadness for his family that he left behind, love for my family that hadn't been together in 5 years, and thankfulness for my knowledge of the plan of salvation. The spirit was very present and my testimony was strengthened this weekend.

Lots and lots of family/cousin time. We had so much of fun!

Of course we seized the opportunity to snap some family photos.

One night we went to downtown Frederick, MD. It was so cute with shops and live music being played on every street. There was this area along a little river that we really enjoyed.

The fire dancer was COOL!!

It was a fabulous weekend reminding us of the beautiful blessing of eternal families.

Thanks to Sing for Hope there are 60 pianos located throughout New York City for anyone to sit down and play. How cool is that!? We're lucky enough to have 2 pianos at our LIC park.
